Confined Space Training

A confined space means a space that:

  • Is large enough and so configured that an employee can bodily enter it,
  • Has limited or restricted means for entry and exit, and
  • Is not designed for continuous employee occupancy.

This four-hour course will cover confined space training compliant with OSHA. It includes interactive real-world practice as well as classroom learning.

Confined Space Challenge

Tuesday, March 4 
3:00-5:00 p.m.
Exhibit Hall Safety Zone

An exciting new event for 2025 is the Confined Space Challenge, presented by NASSCO and UIC, with equipment provided by SAK Construction. The challenge will assess the CS team’s ability to correctly follow all aspects of confined space entry including a retrieval of the entrant once the entrant reaches the retrieval target.

Teams can have 3 – 4 members. A tiebreaker written test will be used in case of a Tie. 

  • The company must bring their own confined space permit
  • Company participants must bring their own PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, safety vest, and safety boots) 
  • You’re set up protocol, permit and PPE will be assessed
  • Competition will have a max time limit of 30 minutes.
  • You will not be judged on speed of CS entry
  • Space for teams of 2-4 people is limited (total number of teams 6).
  • Team lead will be contacted for the names of the team members.

The Challenge takes place on Tuesday, March 4, 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall. If additional time is needed, the competition will continue on Wednesday, 3:00-5:00 p.m.

On Thursday Open access to the simulator, when a trainer is present, will be available between 9:00-11:00 a.m. (viewing/questions only, no competition.)
